Howlite, Onyx and sterling silver necklace
By Shanina
Well, it's been a while since I posted a new piece. I hope you like it. This one design had been rattling around in my head for a few days before I bit the bullet and made it. Even as I was making it, I was tweaking the design so that it would come out just so.
The necklace chain is sterling silver double chain, that sits really nicely when worn. I like that it looks like two chains together but isn't.
I alternated the howlite and onyx beads so that they reflected the pattern that I was going for. I wanted them one after the other but spaced further apart. I used 4cm of chain between each link of beads to fill it out quicker and to give a bit of drape to the end product.
I used 4cm of square argentium silver wire that I had purchased from G S Gold back in January last year. I went square because I tend to use a lot of round wire and wanted something different. Anyway, I marked each piece of wire with pliers at exactly the spot that I wanted the beads to sit. This made it easier for me to put the loops at the end and the string the beads.
Now the image to the right shows the finished chain link. I wish it showed the square wire more clearly, but what can you do? Every time I tried to get closer the image was blurred and I didn't want blurry pictures.
The next image is the finished product from directly above. I did this so that you could get a better look at what it looks like, instead of just the arty shot at the top of the hub. I love the alternating of the colours in this shot.
Lastly, I wanted a close up of the pendant. Again, you can't see the square wire - damn it!! I've had this pendant for a number of years and I mostly wore it on a chain...until the chain broke. I had the chain repaired, but again it broke, so I took it to be a sign that I needed to incorporate it elsewhere in my jewellery. This pendant replaced a break pendant that i had that was half of a yin yang. I decided that I was both sides at once and didn't need someone else to make me whole or to be my other side. Anyway, I wanted to make it into something and this is what I came up with. I chose the black and white for the opposing colours of the yin yang and have seven bead links because seven is a lucky number.
I hope that you like it as much as I do. It came out better than I expected.
I will make custom pieces by request. Leave me a comment requesting the piece and I will contact you to get a description of what you want and to give you a quote for the price.
Enjoy viewing...there will be more to follow now that I am jobless...again.
